Flutist Herbie Mann opened up his music on this date for Push Push (and during the era) toward R&B, rock and funk music. The results were generally appealing, melodic and danceable. This is the story of African-American gospel quintet The Legendary Ingramettes, founded by Maggie Ingram and taken up by her daughter Almeta Ingram-Miller as a way to continue Maggie's legacy after Maggie's passing in 2015. Inspired by the black gospel male quartets of the 1940s and 50s, The Legendary Ingramettes bring roof raising harmonies and explosively powerful vocals, all driven by the voices of women.

The title tells the story on this EP – here former Jayhawks leader Gary Louris performs six songs from his solo debut Vagabonds, accompanied only by his acoustic guitar. These solo performances don't bring much that's new to these songs, but given how good Louris' songwriting was on Vagabonds, that's no insult; accompanied by a full band, they were compelling stuff, and Louris makes them work nearly as well with just his voice and a six-string. The emotional intimacy of "We'll Get By," "To Die a Happy Man," and "She Only Calls Me on Sunday" suits the spare interpretations on this EP just fine, and while these tracks often sound as if they're little more than demos, they're good demos of very good songs, and Louris' strength as a vocalist truly shines on this disc. Acoustic Vagabonds is a casual but pleasing set that will certainly satisfy anyone who has a taste for Louris' music, though they ought to give Vagabonds a spin before moving on to this supplement.

Severn Records announces a September 18 release date for Too Far from the Bar, the new album from Sugar Ray and the Bluetones, featuring Little Charlie Baty. Produced by Duke Robillard, who also adds his tasty guitar licks to four tracks on the new disc, Too Far from the Bar was recorded at Severn Sound Studio in Annapolis, Maryland, and boasts a value-packed 15 tracks, including a number of original songs penned by the band’s members, showcasing their songwriting abilities as one of the group’s many strengths. The core band for the recording sessions was comprised of Sugar Ray Norcia - vocals and harmonica; Charlie Baty – guitar; Anthony Geraci – piano; Michael Mudcat Ward – acoustic bass; and Neil Gouvin – drums.

A necessary follow-up his first album on Ambientologist, Kval strengthens Henrik's crossing of medieval evocation and meditative ambient cello. Where Själ sought to remain non-directional in its expression, Kval turns on a central theme, guiding a narrative through the mundane and the sublime.

Raging Silence is the 17th album by British Rock group Uriah Heep. It marked the studio debut of Canadian vocalist Bernie Shaw. It was produced by Richard Dodd. The title is an allusion to the Manfred Mann's Earth Band album The Roaring Silence. It was the first Uriah Heep studio album to have a contemporary release on CD. It opens with the old Argent hit "Hold Your Head Up", although Mick Box was pleased to be able to add a guitar solo. This track was the lead single from the album. The second single was "Blood Red Roses", written by the band's erstwhile vocalist Pete Goalby. The 7" came as a poster-sleeve (UK cat. Legacy LGY 101) and had "Rough Justice" as the B-side. The 12" p/s came with a patch and also added a previously unavailable live version of "Look At Yourself" (UK cat. Legacy LGYT 101).
