    In terms of sheer influence, an argument can be made that power metal wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for Ronnie James Dio. During his stint with Rainbow and, to a greater extent, in his solo band, Dio set the blueprints for what would become power metal, with powerful, soaring vocals, and big, melodic riffs. Although as early as the late 70s, bands had begun to play a similar style of heavy metal (a term that didn’t even really exist at the time) to that of Rainbow, it was the mid-80s when power metal began to blossom, particularly in Europe. Bands like Accept and Helloween took sonic cues from Dio, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest, and created music that was arena-ready, without giving up that heavy edge metal fans demand. Trends come and go in metal, but power metal has stayed pretty consistent, as can be heard on Black Eyed Children, the latest release from Swedish power metal outfit Astral Doors.

    Great CD! Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Mountain, Grand Funk Railroad, Dio, etc. Their sound was allegedly born through their song "Of the Son and the Father", about the clergy sex abuse scandal in the United States. Haglund, who had begun the project as the bassist, soon switched to guitar, and Mika Itäranta was hired to play bass. All six members were now in place. Of the Son and the Father was released in 2003, and shot to No. 5 in Rock Hard, a well known German metal magazine.

    It's been almost 9 years since the release of their last release. With such a wait rest assured that the Whispers have delivered what can arguably be described as their one of strongest albums ever released. Their sound is as fresh and vibrant as ever was. A strong album with a supporting cast of a whole plethora of quality artists all helping to make this one special album. The music feels real, not synthetic like so much of today's R&B. They may have a throwback sound, but the songs sounds surprisingly fresh.

    Following a very successful concert at the Music Room of Champs Hill, the renowned Škampa Quartet returned to Champs Hill to record this disc featuring Antonín Dvořák’s American String Quartet and Quintet Opp. 96-97, joined by violist Krzysztof Chorzelski for the latter. The quartet talk about their choice of repertoire: “We were seduced by the charming coincidence of both opus numbers having been destined for string quartet, while the preceding work, Op.95, happens to be nothing smaller than the monumental Symphony No. 9, the ‘New World’ Symphony.” The Škampa Quartet is among the very finest of an outstanding group of current Czech string quartets that has represented their country in major Concert Halls around the world for twenty-five years.

    Former Madness singer Suggs McPherson had toyed with various re-formations of that hugely successful UK pop band before launching his solo career in 1995. The success of the band’s ‘Madstock’ shows in Finsbury Park, London, in 1993, had reawakened public affection for the engaging singer. Suggs explained the delay thus: ‘When I left Madness, I didn’t want to stay in the music industry as a performer.’ Instead he managed the Farm, co-producing their first album, and worked on his own show on satellite television (the ill-fated BSB). He began to write his own songs again in 1991, with the co-operation of former Madness colleague Mike Barson. When he decided to undertake a belated solo career in 1994 he found a willing aid in the shape of Warner Music chairman Rob Dickins, who had arranged Madness’ publishing and originally lent the band the £200 necessary to record their first single, ‘The Prince’.

    Filippo Ruge (1725-1767) was born in Rome, where he was a famous traverso player and a member of the prestigious Congregation of St. Cecilia. Later he settles in Paris, where he became a fashionable flautist and composer, soloist in the “Concerts spirituels”, orchestra conductor, and editor and promoter of Italian music in the French capital. In Paris he performed his own symphony “La tempête suivie du calme” (for strings and horns!), one of the most striking examples of French musical descriptivism.

    Never Turn Your Back on a Friend is Budgie's third album, released in June 1973. A remastered version was released in late 2004. This is the band's best known album and is notable for its inclusion of "Breadfan", the band's best-known song. Metallica recorded a cover version of "Breadfan" in 1988. The album cover was done by Roger Dean, who has done much of the album artwork for progressive rock band Yes.
