Internationally acclaimed composer William McClelland has written a wide variety of music in many styles and forms, but the works in this program have all been inspired by poetry. The choral works evoke the atmosphere of time and place in settings of very early texts, including Catullus’ movingly elegiac lament for his lost brother, These Last Gifts, an experience shared by the composer. The short pieces in Five for Piano all evoke specific poems and, composed over several decades, McClelland’s songs are primarily settings of poetry by American writers that express a mystical, symbolic or visionary view on nature.

In 1962, two of the most influential and talented instrumentalists Cuba has ever produced met. Saxophonist/clarinetist Paquito D'Rivera was invited to hear pianist Chucho Valdés at a local club in his Marianao neighborhood in southern Havana. The two soon became a musical partnership that helped shape jazz in Cuba. Their paths would part in 1980, when D'Rivera left Cuba.

The brilliant Macedonian pianist based in Chicago and Santa Fe, NM, has begun her project of recording works by Eastern European women composers Grażyna Bacewicz, Bojana Petrovic Aleksova, Zara Levina, Maria Szymanowska, Dora Pejačević and her own two Phantasies No.1 and No.2. The project will be engineered by the outstanding Dan Nichols of Aphorism Studio, and produced by Carmen-Helena Tellez of Aquava New Music.

The full details of the soundtrack album for the Netflix original film The Gray Man have been revealed. The album features the movie’s original music composed by Henry Jackman (Captain America: The Winter Soldier & Civil War, Wreck-It-Ralph, X-Men: First Class, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Kong: Skull Island, Big Hero 6). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, July 22 by Netflix Music. Check back on this page for the streaming/download link. A first track has already been released last week. The Gray Man is directed by Anthony & Joe Russo and stars Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Regé-Jean Page, Dhanush, Jessica Henwick, Julia Butters, Wagner Moura, Alfre Woodard and Billy Bob Thornton. The action thriller follows a shadowy CIA agent who – after he uncovers damning agency secrets – gets hunted across the globe by a sociopathic rogue operative who’s put a bounty on his head. The film was released in select theaters last weekend and will premiere tomorrow on Netflix.

Prizefighter: The Life of Jem Belcher is an upcoming British-American biographical drama film about the birth of boxing, written by Matt Hookings. The film explores the life of Jem Belcher who became the youngest ever world champion, was partially blind at the age of 22 and dead by the age of 30. The film stars Matt Hookings as Jem Belcher and Ray Winstone as his trainer Bill Warr, with Marton Csokas, Jodhi May, Steven Berkoff, Julian Glover, and Russell Crowe in the supporting cast.

Gavin James Already on his way to becoming one of 2015’s international crossover-stories, Gavin James is a 22-year-old artist who grew up in a Dublin suburb. The son of a postman, music was arguably in Gavin’s blood: his maternal great-grandparents were both famous Irish Opera singers. James began playing guitar at age eight. After years of playing Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin covers in the garden shed, he joined a band while in his teens and, upon drawing the short straw, was drafted as its singer.
