Time was, Beginnings represented a holy grail of sorts for Slade fans (and original Fontana pressings still do). Thankfully, a rash of reissues have taken much of the edge of the market, and the band's debut album, cut while they still traded as Ambrose Slade, is readily available for all to hear, and what a joy it is. Of course, little of what you'd expect from Slade is actually in place, although Noddy Holder's vocals, naturally, are unmistakable…

    Heavy/Power/Speed Metal

Fall Into Madness is Steel Attack's second album, released in 2001. The second album by Swedish power metal quartet, Steel Attack, is beyond comparison. They're original power metal feel is still intact from the first album, Where Mankind Fails, but with improved vocals by Steven Steel, some added keyboards, and a better production that brings out the best from all its talented members. The first track, "Fall into Madness", is possibly the best song they've ever written, with unreal guitar work, very powerful drums, and great chorus arrangements. All tracks are fast and furious, with the exception of "Holy Swordsman" which shows Steel Attack displaying a heavy and awesome groove.

This album has an extremly lively blend of streight ahead jazz and tropical island sounds. The playing is top notch and tight. While the rhythm section keeps the grooves mellow and movin' the rest of the band can get your head spinnin' with blazin' runs and wicked sincopation.

The press agreed the album was maybe not a masterpiece, but a warning for what to come.

The Caribbean Jazz Project has built its reputation by forging a colorful blend of Latin and Caribbean styles. Although the band's lineup has continued to evolve on Birds of a Feather, vibraphonist Dave Samuels, trumpeter Ray Vega, percussionist Robert Quintero, drummer Dafnis Prieto, and bassist Ruben Rodriguez remain from the original incarnation. A number of guests, including trumpeter Randy Brecker, guitarist Romero Lubambo, and drummer Mark Walker help fill out the arrangements. With all of the high profile talent here, it's important to remember that Birds of a Feather worries less over standout solos than the overall tapestry.

Life is a science fiction horror film directed by Daniel Espinosa which stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson and Ryan Reynolds. The film follows a crew aboard the International Space Station as they study a sample of organic matter brought by a space probe returning from Mars. Their studies verify the sample is the first proof of extraterrestrial life, but the experiments backfire as the organism gains intelligence and begins growing rapidly. Trapped aboard the ISS, the crew must find out how to kill the being before it escapes to Earth. The original soundtrack to Life was composed by director Espinosa’s frequent collaborator Jon Ekstrand (Easy Money, Child 44). Ekstrand has crafted a score which sets an ominous mood for the film which builds expertly before giving way to the sheer terror of being pursued in an isolated otherworldly environment. This release is not to be missed.

With the help of Robert Papst of Dominoe Fame, Dan Lucas has delivered a collection of songs that even the most hardened aor freak couldnt resist. It's just one great track after another without giving you enough time to breathe and that to me is a good sign of a great record... If you havent heard of Dan Lucas before go grab this if you can (its a bit hard to find these days) its worth the money you'll have to pay for believe me!

Ask Will Wiesenfeld to contrast his project Baths with the music made under his Geotic alias and you’ll get a simple response: Baths is active listening, Geotic is passive listening. But behind this straightforward duality exists two projects that are equally poignant yet starkly distinct, reflective of the emotional complexities of its creator.

The Messiah"" by George Frederic Handel counts among the most popular and formative oratorios. Starting in 1750, it has for decades been annually performed as conclusion to the oratorio season in London, oftentimes under the baton of Handel himself. The ""Messiah"" is, essentially, nothing other than a biography of Jesus told in metaphors and described with the immense dramatic power, passion and religious emphasis of Handel.

Belgian composer Jean-Baptiste Singelee, while often remembered for his groundbreaking treatment of the newly developed saxophone, he was primarily a violinist, and also composed beautiful works for the instrument. Perhaps Singelee's time as the violin soloist at the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie inspired him to compose these fantasies based on popular operas. This first volume of opera fantasies from violinist Thomas Wood and pianist Brian Dykstra include fantasies on The Barber of Seville, Martha, and more. Thomas Wood is a Professor of Music at The College of Wooster, where he teaches violin, viola, chamber music, string methods, music history, and literature. He was the first violinist to be awarded the degree Doctor of Musical Arts in Violin Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition to his teaching, he is active as a soloist and in recital, and has performed across the United States and Spain.
