    Vocal Jazz, Pop | MP3 CBR 320 kbps | 00:59:53 | 140 MB
Label: Messy House Productions | Release Year: 2016

There's immediate comfort in encountering Audrey Silver's music for the first time. Her voice is an open invitation, an instrument of confession and creation that immediately transports you to someplace else. That's evident from her first utterances through her last words on Very Early. In putting together this program, Silver thought long and hard about song selection. It shows, both in the eclectic playlist she created and through the unique arrangements born of her thoughts and Steven Santoro's clever pen. Everything from overdone Broadway favorites to original material to jazz standards sounds fresh in these interpretations.

    Vocal Jazz | MP3 CBR 320 kbps | 00:57:49 | 135 MB
    Label: B&B Records | Release Year: 2017

In her relentless pursuit of innovative brilliance, extraordinary vocalist Beata Pater has one consistent rule. “True artistry demands that we always challenge ourselves, never look for an easy route, work hard and thoroughly enjoy the process. There is no other way for me.” That process is vividly reflected on Fire Dance. Beata has always been heavily involved in the production of all of her recordings, but for Fire Dance she has taken it a good deal further, controlling the process from start to finish, putting together the musicians and supervising every aspect of the production in and out of the studio, from conceptual inception through the mixing and mastering. To begin, she engaged composer/pianist Alex Danson to create eleven original compositions, providing the structure and framework, specifically for Beata to infuse the colors, textures and contextual vision. When her conceptual vision was in place, she selected seven remarkable musicians to develop them into a most captivating anthology of vividly cinematic excursions.

Jazz | Label: Concord Music | Release Year: 2012

Concord's 10-track disc provides an introduction to Monk's mid-50s recordings for the Prestige and Riverside labels. Collected here are prime examples of Monk in mid-career as an iconoclastic pianist, writer of jazz standards, and a band leader who attracted spectacular players to his sessions. Among the notable compositions are "Blue Monk," "Ruby, My Dear" and "'Round Midnight," and the sessions are highlighted by the talents of Percy Heath, Art Blakey, Clark Terry, Sonny Rollins, Max Roach, Paul Chambers, John Coltrane, Coleman Hawkins, Roy Haynes and many more. This is neither a full-telling of Monk's career, which also included key recordings on Blue Note and Columbia, nor of his entire six year run on Prestige and Riverside (the original albums of which are mostly still in print); but for an introduction to Monk's music, this is a good place to start.

Progressive Rock, Space Rock | Label: Spiritual Pajamas | Release Year: 2015

Heavy space rock outsiders Mammatus return with their fourth album, and most ambitious to date. Sparkling Waters features four multi-movement pieces, each designed to recalibrate the shanga array in your mind. In order to achieve the highest levels of sensory clarity, the group enlisted Phil Manley (Trans Am, Life Coach) as their guiding light throughout the studio production. As a result, these tracks shimmer with a far out, casual glow, like an aural reflection of a Risan steam pool. On Sparkling Waters, Mammatus expands upon the astral grooves and heady riffs of their previous compositions and set a course for the furthest horizon. Celestial arpeggiations of electric guitar ricochet infinitely across vast expanses of cosmic debris.

Before Las Rosas, these three gents did time in critically acclaimed and like-minded acts including Harlem and Wild Yaks, and those experiences have been distilled into a singular Lp that combines wit and humor with sneering, whip-smart garage rock.

A bandleader can command with his ego or he can direct from his heart. At the top of his game after twenty-plus years of musical experience, it's obvious that Jeremy Pelt, his exceptional talents as a trumpeter and composer accounted for, has tapped into a generous and encouraging spirit and built Make Noise! from the band up. That is, Pelt's four handpicked musical compatriots were fully expected to bring a firm artistic identity and fertile ideas to the game, which not surprisingly, each offered in abundance. Allowing his bandmates to shine only threw greater light on their intuitive leader. In addition to leading his own bands since the turn of the new millennium, Pelt worked with such legendary jazz veterans as Johnny Griffin, Cedar Walton, Wayne Shorter, James Moody and Louis Hayes. Throughout Make Noise!, Pelt incorporates his accumulated knowledge of still vital jazz conventions, while also blending dynamic contemporary rhythmic and harmonic ploys in to the mix.

Published posthumously in 1714, the Concerti Grossi by Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713) became, in a very short time, one of the 19th century's most popular instrumental collections, much admired and imitated both in and outside Italy. For a long time these works were considered a perfect example of noble and marmoreal classicism; this fiery and colourful interpretation given by the Alessandro Stradella Consort led by Estevan Velardi, however, restores them to their deserved position within the process of renovation which European music was then undergoing, a process that indeed started in Italy.

Charlie Sepúlveda is trumpeter of power and nuance. On this recording, Sepúlveda takes on the challenge of preserving culture without being trapped by it.
He can take a tried-and-true classic like "Besamé Mucho," and instead of falling into the routine he completely modernizes it, stripping the tune of his sometime over-emphasized bolero rhythm and makes something completely new and communicative.

Recorded live on to 2 inch tape at the legendary Damien Gerard studios in Sydney, this raw and revealing session combines the sound of primal electric blues with Luke’s distinctive wit and wordplay. The recording took place just 24 hours before the US election, and the tape reels capture the sense of foreboding. “Skeleton Blues” lays bare the key influences in Luke’s music. It includes covers of songs by Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan, as well as two electrifying renditions of the old spirituals “O Death” and “John the Revelator”, a song Luke first heard performed by Son House on a live recording from the early 60s.
