Genre: Progressive Rock | RAR 3% Rec. | Label: Fading Records (FAD025)

La Bocca Della Verita is the next new name from the Italian progressive rock scene. The style of music which can be heard on their compositions can be labelled as retro progressive rock. In every way they look back at the beautiful musical period of progressive rock released in the seventies. All of the bands they covered at first can be heard on this almost 80 minutes long album. But also acts such as Yes and King Crimson could have been an inspiration for the musicians. The two keyboard players easily step into the footsteps of Tony Banks, Rick Wakeman and the late Keith Emerson. Also the bassist knows how to sound like the late Chris Squire. As for the lead guitarist it wasn't easy to compare him with anyone. But he comes close to Steve Hackett and Robert Fripp. Highly recommended to those who adore the progressive rock made in the seventies.

Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino have built a deserved global following by specialising in pizzica, the hypnotic music of south-east Italy reputed to cure spider bites, with its pounding frame drums, violin, accordion, bagpipes and harmony vocals. They have always mixed traditional and contemporary influences, and here their songwriter Mauro Durante collaborates with European and US writers, including the album’s producer, Joe Mardin, who has worked with Aretha Franklin. It’s a set packed with surprises, most of them welcome.

After a prolonged five year episode of life-gets-in-the-way, TCP (Temporal Chaos Project) enthusiastically comes back with their third release, Temporal Chaos, an album filled with the band’s unmistakable penchant for drama, twisted melodies, double-meaning lyrics, and the marriage of old and new. Opening with the edgy but strangely addictive Torn Apart and culminating in the epic In the Flame, could this be TCP’s best effort yet?

Bossa nova might have been forged in a spirit of futurism and progress, but within a few years of its birth its leading songwriters had to address Brazil’s brutal military dictatorship. Here São Paulo-born, London-based singer Mônica Vasconcelos and producer Robert Wyatt collect 10 Brazilian protest songs from the 1960s and 70s. To avoid censorship, the original versions had cunningly disguised lyrics with blandly generalised expressions of love, longing and carnival; but Vasconcelos can address each song’s mournful, militant subtext.

As On the Corner founder Pete describes, this ushers in a string of releases that embody the label's vision. The futuristic concept first realised by Miles Davis with his acclaimed 'On The Corner' album during his electric period is at the heart of their collaborative and eclectic core. On the A side is a wicked cover of Davis' "Black Satin". A respectful homage is paid to the original with sensational improvised parts being added and a hip groove that still manages to capture the original's atmosphere.

Japanese-Australian comedian and musician George Miller – who built an audience on the internet as Filthy Frank and the Lycra-wearing "Harlem Shake"-ing Pink Guy – is also a serious artist crafting downtempo, moody reflections under the Joji moniker on efforts like In Tongues. He made his debut in 2011 with the absurdist online comedy series The Filthy Frank Show, which garnered Miller over four million followers and pop culture renown with his viral "Harlem Shake" dance. He rode his ensuing popularity by releasing an album of popular vignettes, the self-titled Pink Guy, in 2014. With a built-in fan base, Pink Guy's 2016 release, Pink Season, topped download charts and climbed to number 76 on the Billboard 200. In addition to trap rap-influenced tracks, the album also featured downtempo electronic textures reflecting his non-comedic songwriting as Joji. He would spin that trip-hop-inspired songcraft into a full exercise on 2017's In Tongues, a six-song EP of introspective musings and piano-based electronic explorations similar to tracks by Jinsang and eevee.

“This album is my testament to hope!”, says Yves Schelpe. “It’s a journey from utter despair towards joy and happiness. With “Lightflare”, I leave behind those bitter moments in life, the album is a beacon, shining, standing tall like a lighthouse in a rough ocean storm, waiting to be a guide for all those lost at sea… For those wandering souls, for you, and perhaps - and more than likely - even for the "future me””.

PLAYING LECUONA is a musical journey through the works and living spaces of Ernesto Lecuona, the internationally acclaimed pianist and piano composer from Latin America. Serving as guides through Lecuona’s music are the three most gifted Latin Jazz pianists in the world: Chucho Valdes, Michel Camilo, and Gonzalo Rubalcaba. Valdes fuses Latin Jazz together with Afro-Cuban rhythms in Lecuona’s native Havana; Camilo recreates elegant aural soundscapes in New York and the Canary Islands; and Rebalcaba fuses Jazz and Flamenco in Seville, the heart of Andalusia-Spain and a source of great inspiration to Lecuona. Together, these three musicians provide a rich portrait of Lecuona’s music and its influence.

When Lucas Schmid, producer of the WDR Big Band, first mentioned his interest in a program of music from the Christmas Oratorio of J.S. Bach, arranged to feature this ensemble in combination with the King’s Singers, I was immediately interested and excited. Having collaborated several times with this group of uniquely gifted vocalists, including the WDR Big Band’s Bach 2000 project, I knew there was an opportunity to create something very special indeed. Bach composed the work between 1734 and 1735. Since each of the six cantatas that make up the Christmas Oratorio was originally intended for a particular Sunday in the liturgical year, the sheer quantity of music is far too much for a single performance. The first major part of my work, then, would be the musical selection.

This is what was intended to be the second part of my Tor Lundvall Remix series. Unfortunately I am dissatisfied with it due to a few defects, and it is highly unlikely that I will ever be able to complete it. Still it serves as a testament to my interest in the work of Tor Lundvall that I made it this far.
