Lo. Def Pressure consists of two extended compositions (both over 20 minutes) from genre-expanding musician/composer/producer Bill Laswell. Featuring a group of percussionists (including the exceptional tabla player Zakir Hussain) and sound generators, the results are texture-heavy excursions into rhythm that combine ancient musical traditions with modern beat science. It's a meeting of old and new, East and West that has taken place on Laswell's recordings ever since talking drums and tablas met drifting new age ambience on 1988's Hear No Evil. With Lo. Def Pressure, however, he has proven that the same preoccupations can make for captivating music over two decades into his career.

After the quintet Toxic Parasites, and the eponymous CD released in 2013, saxophonist-clarinetist exchange instrumentation maintaining the same drummer. On the trio originally associated sax, organ and drums, arises by adding a guitar a formula strongly influenced by jazz history (Jimmy Smith, Brother Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff, but obviously as Larry Young). It is indeed in a context of effervescence, groove and cursiveness resulting feet and neurons in a desire for perpetual motion. Beaches on fast tempo, which cultivate the taste of vertigo in motion alternate with claimed melancholy moments, whether clarinets (Smooth Skin, Cape Cod) or alto sax, with an obviously tropism which causes the side of Ornette Coleman (Dreaming with Ornette, Silent March).

Carl Philipp Emanuel was the most famous son of the great Johann Sebastian. He developed his own musical language, the Empfindsamer Stil, of which the expression of personal feelings, a free and sometimes improvisatory style and the frequent alternation of opposing moods and characters were the keywords. His music can be both charming and vehement, may please or shock the listener, can be simple of complicated: a perfect example of the Sturm und Drang movement of his period.

Raga Purya Kalyan is a 1991 compact disc by Shivkumar Sharma and Zakir Hussain. The CD contains two ragas. Shefali Nag joins Sharma and Hussain on the tambura. This disc was released by World Network & WDR.

Under Wraps is the 15th studio album by the band Jethro Tull, released in 1984. The songs' subject matter is heavily influenced by bandleader Ian Anderson's love of espionage fiction. It was controversial due to its electronic/synth sound, particularly the use of electronic drums…

Shivkumar Sharma is accompanied on this album by Zakir Hussain. Nimbus's importance as the first CD pressing plant in Britain meant that its recording wing had developed a keen and early appreciation of the technology and potential of CD production. A beautiful, sensitively played pairing.
