First Step was the first album by the British group Faces, released in early 1970. The album was released only a few months after the Faces had formed from the ashes of the Small Faces (from which Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones and Ian McLagan hailed) and The Jeff Beck Group (from which Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood hailed.) The album is credited to the Small Faces on all North American issues and reissues, while record labels for initial vinyl printings give the title as The First Step. The Faces is a band that proves that sometimes loose ends are as great as tidiness, that living in the moment is what's necessary, and this First Step is a record filled with individual moments, each one to be savored.

Stéphane Grappelli (26 January 1908 – 1 December 1997) was a French jazz violinist who founded the Quintette du Hot Club de France with guitarist Django Reinhardt in 1934. It was one of the first all-string jazz bands. He has been called "the grandfather of jazz violinists" and continued playing concerts around the world well into his 80s.

One of the all-time great jazz violinists (ranking with Joe Venuti and Stuff Smith as one of the big three of pre-bop), Stéphane Grappelli's longevity and consistently enthusiastic playing did a great deal to establish the violin as a jazz instrument. He was originally self-taught as both a violinist and a pianist, although during 1924-28 he studied at the Paris Conservatoire. Grappelli played in movie theaters and dance bands before meeting guitarist Django Reinhardt in 1933.

The 2004 release The Best of LeAnn Rimes tweaks the 2003 U.S. release Greatest Hits, leaving behind some of the purer country hits that didn’t translate outside of the U.S. – notably, Al Anderson’s “Big Deal” is nowhere to be found – and concentrating on her big pop crossover hits, including “How Do I Live,” “Can’t Fight the Moonlight,” and her duet with Ronan Keating, “Last Thing on My Mind.”

"Canyon Lady" is a jazz album by Joe Henderson. It was recorded in 1973, but released only in 1975. It is a peculiar album, one of Henderson's most experimental efforts. Far from being a classic jazz project, Canyon Lady incorporates very strong Latin American influences in the brass section, percussion and rhythm. Henderson's playing is at times characterized by ostinato sequences. The first two pieces also feature unusual electric piano solos and patterns. Many musicians are involved in the project "Tres Palabras" is performed by a 13-elements ensemble.

Grammy Award-winning acoustic guitarist Earl Klugh is releasing a new ensemble recording, The Spice of Life, April 29th, on Koch Records. The album is being described as Klugh's “first full-production release in nine years,” and is the follow-up to 2005’s Naked Guitar, which brought Klugh his eleventh career Grammy nomination. On the album, Klugh reinterprets four of his favorite standards and longtime collaborator Don Sebesky contributes five orchestral arrangements, including Klugh’s boyhood favorite “Canadian Sunset”; his reinterpretation of the Thelonious Monk classic, “Bye Ya”; and a revival of “C’est Si Bon.” Flutist Hubert Laws guests, and composer Eddie Horst arranges the chamber-group string accompaniment on the Klugh original “Heart of My Life.” The Spice of Life also features several Klugh originals. The project is said to incorporate all of the veteran instrumentalist's musical influences, from pop and soul to jazz and gospel, as well as different musical settings.

Although this CD gives the Earl Klugh Trio first billing, the guitarist's group is joined by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, a large string orchestra arranged by Don Sebesky. Except for the brief intros and interludes, the music is comprised of themes from movies. With Sebesky contributing arrangements that are sometimes saccharine, the program does sound like film music. Klugh has always had a pretty sound and that is very much in evidence, but he rarely ventures away from the melodies. Fans of the guitarist's usual recordings will consider this set a nice change of pace.

    Genre: Straight-Ahead Jazz

Earl Klugh Trio, Vol. 1 gives listeners a rare chance to hear the guitarist playing straight-ahead jazz. Some bebop musicians contend that playing dull background music year after year means you can kiss your bebop chops goodbye, but there's no evidence of that on this rewarding CD. With Klugh sticking to acoustic guitar and employing Ralph Armstrong on upright bass and Gene Dunlap on drums, someone who is best known for recording schlock offers tasteful and lyrical interpretations of such well known standards as "I'll Remember April," "Night and Day" and "One Note Samba." Klugh also excels on "Lonely Girl" (a beautiful but underexposed Neal Hefti piece) and pleasantly surprises by demonstrating that the theme from the '60s sitcom Bewitched and the Aretha Franklin hit "I Say a Little Prayer" (written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David) can work in an acoustic bebop setting.

Earl Klugh released Wishful Thinking directly after Two of a Kind, his second collaboration with Bob James, and it was one of his most successful recordings, both artistically and commercially. As much as any project, this classic proves that Klugh is one of the most distinctive artists in contemporary instrumental music.
