Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produced the bouncy danceable hit title track (similar in groove to Zapp's "More Bounce to the Ounce"), as well as the serene, atmospheric "Say You Love Me Again" and "You Are My Melody"; all can be found on Very Best of Change. The bulk of the album was written and produced by Timmy Allen, including the charting follow-up, the sly and funky "It Burns Me Up," and the quirky "Lovely Lady."

Contains fewer crossover hits than previous volumes, but R&B scorchers like "Funky Music Sho' Nuff Turns Me On," by Yvonne Fair, and Bonnie Pointer's "Free My From My Freedom," will liven any party. High Energy's energetic "He's a Pretender" sounds like a smash, but failed to sell, the Mary Jane Girls' erotic "Candy Man" did much better. The only Pop hits are Thelma Houston's "Don't Leave Me This Way," and "The Boss," by Diana Ross, but crankers by Tata Vega, Syreeta Wright, and the Supremes rate high on the groove meter. However, Milira's jazzy "Mercy Mercy Me" doesn't belong on a collection called Funkology: Dance Divas.

A "here's-some-music-that's-influenced-us" mix, the 11th entry in the LATE NIGHT TALES series is an eclectic album compiled by the English folk-pop duo Turin Brakes. There's a mellow, downtempo vibe here, and a good bit of variety, with the likes of Chris Whitley and Gillian Welch sequenced alongside Talk Talk, Grant Green, J.J. Cale, and Silver Jews. Turin Brakes make a musical appearance with a cover of the Rolling Stones' "Moonlight Mile," which fits nicely into this blissfully low-key 17-song set.

On Everlasting Love, Vanessa Williams covers her favorite soul songs of the '70s, often with help from the London Session Orchestra. This is a classy set of material that straddles the line between faithful renditions and creative reinterpretations. The strummy folk-soul of the Isley Brothers' "Harvest for the World" is turned into jazz-funk for the dancefloor; the natural exuberance within "Never Can Say Goodbye" is toned down a few degrees, thanks in part to George Benson's guitar and James "D-Train" Williams' (!) backing vocals.
