The Pop-Liisa and Jazz-Liisa broadcast session series presents previously unreleased and forgotten gems from the biggest names of Finnish prog and jazz of the 1970's. Never bootlegged and known up until now only to a few faithful servants (and largely thought to have been lost for ever), these sessions offer a hitherto unrivalled look into the state of Finnish jazz and progressive rock between the years 1972-1977. Imagine if the sessions recorded by John Peel had only recently been discovered, and you get an idea of the cultural weight of what is being brought into the light of day here.
Originally recorded as broadcasts by YLE (the national radio service Yleisradio, "the Finnish BBC"), the thirty-four Liisankatu sessions are a genuine who’s who of Finnish prog and jazz. Interestingly, anyone with even basic knowledge of the era’s biggest bands will recognize familiar names at play within these obscure bands…

Deb was born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia and made her debut as a vocalist at age 17 with the the rock band Hostage. In 1997 she began fronting the blues band No Fixed Address. Her love of the blues had begun! Known for her dynamic voice and unique bluesy style, Deb has had the opportunity to work with some of Victoria's best musicians.

Forty years ago two young Dutchmen decided to join forces and form an acoustic blues group. The duo Greyhound was born. Sjoerd Heijda (vocals, guitars and occasionally piano or mandolin) and Klaas Vermeulen (harmonica) were diggin' deep into the rich heritage of classic African American blues and interpreted songs written by Big Bill Broonzy, Tarheel Slim, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee and Jim Brewer. They also started creating their own songs. Soon they performed all over The Netherlands and they even inked a record deal. They never finished that album due to personal reasons and lost sight of each other for awhile.

The British blues rock 'supergroup' The Milk Men release their brand new album GOLD TOP. The album follows the band's critically-acclaimed 2016 debut FULL PHAT. The Milk Men have been called a Blues Rock supergroup as the band comprises of members from various renowned UK blues bands including the Mustangs and UK legends The Pirates. GOLD TOP has 11 tracks, including 10 originals, and a storming cover of Hound Dog Taylor's Give Me Back My Wig . One of the originals, This Is The Last Time was co-written by bassist Lloyd Green and his father, the legendary guitarist Mick Green.

After concerts and recordings as Angles 10, Angles 9, Angles 8 and Angles 6, here is back the original Angles line-up, Angles 3. It was 2004 and for a gig at the Glenn Miller Cafe it’s mentor and saxophonist, Martin Küchen invited two Scandinavian musicians now living in the United States (respectively, Austin – Texas and San Diego – California), Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and Kjell Nordeson. “Parede”, the title, is a tribute to the Portuguese town near Lisbon where the album was recorded live, at a venue called SMUP which in few years became the equivalent in this Southern European country to The Stone, Cornelia Street Café and Nublu. Most of the compositions, like Küchen’s classics “Satan in Plain Clothes” and “By Way of Deception”, are the same of those other Angles investments, of course with different arrangements. This version functions as a reduction to the essence of the music conceived by the Swedish musician, resulting in an energetic, even brutal, kind of free bop delivered to the ears as if it is punk or metal, echoes of Sonny Rollins and Albert Ayler mixing with something that could come from… The Melvins.

Mopo, a trio of sax, bass and drums from Finland, has been on the radar of international tastemakers already for a while thanks to their unique blend of jazz, punk, and inpisration from the Finnish nature. Now the trio of saxophonist Linda Fredriksson, bassist Eero Tikkanen and drummer Eeti Nieminen is set to release their fourth album on Helsinki's We Jazz Records. "Mopocalypse", a highly flammable mix of rough-around-the-edges jazz and melodic songwriting, is the remarkable next step for one of Finland's most potent exports. Mopo swing, grind, drive hard, and slow down with an impeccable sense of dynamics. Their music is raw and beautiful.

Pianist Yelena Eckemoff's backstory doesn't suggest the potential for a rise to the category of top level jazz pianist. But here she is, after emigrating to the U.S. from Russia with her husband—leaving her children (temporarily) and everything else (permanently) behind in 1991 to escape repression and to start a new life. Classically trained in her homeland, Eckemoff came to jazz relatively late. With persistence, talent, ambition, audacity and a seemingly unshakable optimism, she has navigated her way to the top echelon of the jazz world and created a substantial discography of very good to excellent recordings, collaborating with the cream of rhythm section cohorts–-bassists Arild Andersen and Jon Christensen, drummers Peter Erskine and Billy Hart.

The Innermost Limits Of Pure Fun is the 1969 album by Farm, a soundtrack to the surf movie by George Greenough. Farm were a band featuring brothers Dennis & Doug Dragon. Dennis later became a member of Joyous Noise in the early 70's and the punk band The Surf Punks in the late 70's. Along with brother Daryl (the Captain of Captain & Tennille), they became The Dragons and recorded an album meant for release in 1969 but didn't come out until 2007. Farm represents the sultry vibe of surf music of the late 60's and early 70's. Feel it! This was reissused in Japan by Em in 2007.

RE/SEARCH: Incredibly Strange Music, Volume I & II is a collection of two compilation CD's focusing in odd records found at charity shops/thrift stores, garage sales and the like. It was created after the release of the book Incredibly Strange Music put together by RE/SEARCH magazine. It focuses on the oddities vinyl records can offer.

Radio One is a 1988 CD by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Released by Rykodisc, it is taken from sessions Hendrix and the Experience did for what was originally listed as just the "Radio One" show on BBC Radio but research has shown some were done for another show for the BBC. Day Tripper was a single Rykodisc also released in support of the Radio One CD with the title track used plus two "alternate versions" of "Drivin' South" and "Hear My Train A Comin'". Upon release, it was rumored that John Lennon had taken part in this recording but he did not.

Live!! is the 1996 EP by Japanese duo MC Hellshit & DJ Carhouse. The MC of the group is Eye Yamatsuka of Boredoms, the DJ of the group is Otomo Yoshihide. Eye grunts and screams while Otomo becomes a DJ in the noisiest sense. This is the second of two EP's the two did together, both share the same title but are indicated with the amount of exclamation points. This one has two exclamation points so it is the second and final edition.

The Amsterdam-based Schoenberg Ensemble ranks alongside the London Sinfonietta, the Ensemble Modern from Frankfurt and Ensemble Intercontemporain in Paris as one of Europe's most distinguished new-music groups. What began in 1974 when seven student instrumentalists got together with their teacher, Reinbert de Leeuw, to perform Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire has steadily diversified. At first, the group concentrated on the music of the Second Viennese School, but gradually its scope expanded: now the Schoenberg Ensemble has a core lineup of 14 musicians and a repertoire that stretches from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day.

Zappa Records celebrates Record Store Day 2017 with an exclusive 10" clear vinyl reissue featuring The Petit Wazoo, a 10 piece band heavy on horn instrumentation, that Zappa toured with in late 1972. Side 1 is the song "Rollo" in its complete form, first released on Little Dots in 2016. Side 2 contains the unreleaed track "Portland Improvisation", produced by FZ himself and mastered by Bernie Grundman.
