Philippe Hersant is a French composer. He studied at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique, Paris. From the 1960s onwards he was one of the leading European composers who contributed to a profound renewal of contemporary musical creation during the last quarter of the twentieth century.

Sink Or Swim, … is the brand new collection of guitar riddled blues rock music. These albums have been in the works for the last 18 months. So many songs written, over a hundred… and this is the cream of the crop. Classic blues rock treachery updated by thoughtful lyrics and punchy guitar. Co-founder of Fada and The Khu, bassist Benoît Lugué set up his first personal sextet in 2015: Cycles. He is surrounded by Denis Guivarc'h on alto saxophone, Olivier Laisney on trumpet, Johan Blanc on trombone and synthesizer, Matthis Pascaud on guitar and Martin Wangermée on drums.

Although critics will argue over the merits of his work, there is no denying that Serge Gainsbourg is one of the most fascinating figures in French popular music. He is best-known on this side of the Atlantic for "Je T'aime Moi Non Plus," a breathy duet with Jane Birkin whose slick, sensual soft rock melody won over many a listener (Birkin's convincingly acted moans of pleasure made it fairly scandalous).

Naxos' triumphant march through Poulenc's complete chamber music continues with this latest release containing, among a host of smaller items, a smashing performance of the magnificent Sonata for Two Pianos, one of the composer's greatest large works in any medium. Alexandre Tharaud and Francis Chaplin play beautifully…hypnotically seductive in the slow introduction and third movement, while the faster music has the right rhythmic skittishness and crisp articulation. The other outstanding performance here is the Sonata for horn, trumpet, and trombone. This awkward but charming piece has seldom sounded better balanced and more natural (not to mention in tune), and it's very well recorded in a warm acoustic. The other pieces are trifles, but no less enjoyable for that. Another winner.

In May of 2011, Neil Young drove a 1956 Crown Victoria from his idyllic hometown of Omemee, Ontario to downtown Toronto's iconic Massey Hall where he intimately performed the last two nights of his solo world tour.
