Celebrated Aussie musician Mark Seymour has compiled a new retrospective full-length album celebrating 30 years of songwriting ahead of embarking on a six-date national tour from late June. Roll Back The Stone 1985-2016 collects Seymour's best-known and best-loved works — yes, including Hunters & Collectors favourites such as Throw Your Arms Around Me, When The River Runs Dry and the evergreen Holy Grail — re-recorded and reimagined with his current backing band, The Undertow. The album was laid down over three nights in the Scrap Museum, at Richmond's Bakehouse Studios, and draws on the complementary talents of instrumentalists Cameron McKenzie (guitars), Peter Maslen (drums) and John Favaro (bass) to imbue Seymour's songs, no matter their physical age, with a renewed sense of purpose and immediacy.

In 1989, the band released a re-worked version of it for the US/international market, again titled Alien. This album included eight out of the twelve tracks released in the 1988 album, five of which were remixed. Two new tracks were added, "Now Love" being one and a cover of "The Air That I Breathe" the other, both sung by new vocalist Peter "Pete" Sandberg.

From acclaimed directors Nick Broomfield and Rudi Dolezal comes a new film about one of the greatest singers of all time. Whitney Houston was the epitome of a superstar, an American Princess, the most awarded female artist ever. Even though Whitney had made millions of dollars, had more consecutive number ones than The Beatles, and became recognised as having one of the greatest voices of all time, she still wasn't free to be herself and died from a drug overdose…

Felix Klieser first began to take a serious interest in the Horn Trio of Johannes Brahms (1833–1897) at the age of thirteen. Back then he was just a junior student at the College of Music and Drama in Hanover. He bought several different recordings of the work, including one featuring the hornist Peter Damm, whom he was later to meet at a master class in Dresden. “I picked up quickly that Felix was extraordinarily talented. He was able to elicit from the horn a soft, warm sound, a distinctly Romantic horn tone,” says the former horn-player of the Dresden Staatskapelle in high praise of Klieser in the booklet text to the young musician’s new CD entitled “Horn Trios”, released on the Berlin Classics label on September 29, 2017.

Chicago's jazz scene suffered a tremendous loss when Lin Halliday died in January 2000 at the age of 63. The tenor saxman's death wasn't all that surprising; he had been plagued by a variety of health problems, and it was no secret that years of hard living and self-abuse had inevitably taken their toll on his body. But even so, one hoped that, God willing, he would make it to 75 or 80 and continue to build his Delmark catalog.

    Classical, Piano | MP3 CBR 320 kbps | 00:52:41 | 123 MB
    Label: Sony Music CG

Impressionist, comedian, playwright, actor, broadcaster and now pianist. Having given up the piano at the age of nine, Alistair McGowan took up music again in his fifties after encouragement from friends and family. Going by this album, his progress is impressive. The pieces here are all straightforward including a Bach prelude and charming works by Mompou, Chopin, Philip Glass and his hero Erik Satie but McGowan digs deep into the colours and textures behind the notes. He has a natural instinct for musical shape and is an inspiration to anyone eager to get playing again.

    EAC Rip | FLAC (image+.cue, log) ~ 331.15 Mb | 52:51 | Covers
Hard-Bop | Country: USA | Label: Red Baron

This is one of Steve Marcus' best all-around recordings. Alternating barnburning versions of "Oleo," "Confirmation," and "Woody'n You" with ballads, Marcus tends to play the slower pieces on his lyrical soprano, saving the romps for his passionate tenor. Backed by pianist John Hicks, bassist Christian McBride, and drummer Marvin "Smitty" Smith, Marcus is consistently brilliant within the bebop tradition, although McBride's bowed bass solo on "Confirmation" almost steals the show.

Post-Bop | Country: USA | Label: World Stage Records

On a set of six straight-ahead originals and two standards, tenor saxophonist Robert Stewart sounds remarkably laid-back and relaxed, particularly when one considers that this was his recording debut. Even on the up-tempo tunes, Stewart is often content to emphasize his warm tone and hold long notes, taking his time to get his message across. Assisted by Eric Reed (who on this CD often emulates McCoy Tyner), bassist Mark Shelby, and drummer Billy Higgins, this is a pleasing modern mainstream effort from the L.A.-based tenor.

    Jazz | MP3 CBR 320 kbps | 00:52:33 | 120 MB
    Label: Omnivore Recordings

The Shelly Manne edition of West Coast Sessions is the oldest fashion of all of the recordings. This recording has much more of a swing era flavor in the repertoire and performance when compared with the others. The inclusion of pianist Pete Jolly accentuates this swing-era element in his Oscar Peterson-styled blues playing on "Hollywood Jam Blues." Jolly's contributions are wordy and voluble, full of all order of ornate phrasing. The three horn from of Pepper, tenor saxophonist Bob Cooper and trombonist Bill Watrous adds to the swing-era environment by representing the most stripped down of big bands. All three understand the material, performing it with a late 1940s flair. "Just Friends" is given a jaunty treatment with near Dixieland counterpoint. The band sounds comfortable and relaxed.

US composer and musician Johannes Johannes Luley is probably best known as the driving force of US band Moth Vellum, who released a highly heralded debut album in 2008 and then more or less disappeared. The band formally disbanded in 2010, and since then Johannes has been hard at work contuning his musical escapades as a solo artist. His first solo album "Tales From Sheepfather's Grove" appeared in January 2013.
"Qitara", the new solo album by Perfect Beings guitarist and producer Johannes Luley has arrived. Featuring Katisse Buckingham (Herbie Hancock), Michael Hunter (Lenny Kravitz) and Otmaro Ruiz (John McLaughlin). Special guest: Ryan Downe (Moth Vellum).
