    Mainstream and its subsidiaries IX Chains and Brown Dog were classy New York labels owned by veteran producer Bob Shad. Formed in 1964 as a jazz imprint, Mainstream diverged into rock and soul, then re-launched in 1970 and reverted to jazz, but assimilated soul and funk until its demise in 1976. Soul offshoots IX Chains and Brown Dog followed in 1973 and 1974.

    Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack album for the Netflix original series Gypsy. The album features selections from the show’s original music composed by Emmy Award winner Jeff Beal (House of Cards, Monk, Pollock, Rome, Appaloosa, An Inconvenient Sequel). The soundtrack will be released digitally soon (check back on this page for the download link) and is now available to order as a limited edition 2-CD set on the label’s official website. Gypsy is created by Lisa Rubin and stars Naomi Watts, Billy Crudup, Sophie Cookson, Lucy Boynton and Karl Glusman. The show follows a Manhattan therapist with a seemingly picturesque life who begins to develop intimate and illicit relationships with the people in her patients’ lives.     “Flatliners” is a 2017 American science fiction psychological horror film directed by Niels Arden Oplev and written by Ben Ripley. The film is a sequel to the 1990 film of the same name, and stars Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, Kiersey Clemons and Kiefer Sutherland (who also starred in the original), and follows five young medical students who attempt to conduct experiments that produce near-death experiences. Twenty-eight years after Nelson Wright survived his ordeal of experimenting on near-death experiences, a group of medical students attempt the same procedure with the help of theorist Courtney Holmes. But once they take their turns, side effects and secrets of the past come along to haunt them. Nathan Barr wrote the score.
