How much do you like Leonard Bernstein? Carnegie Hall is betting you like him a lot as it has collaborated with Sony to prepare this 10-CD set, The Original Jacket Collection: Bernstein Conducts Bernstein. It contains every album Bernstein made of his own music for CBS Records, beginning with his 1950 recording of the Symphony No. 2, "The Age of Anxiety" – predating his tenure with the New York Philharmonic by nearly a decade – to the ballet Dybbuk in 1974, recorded with the New York City Ballet Orchestra several years after his departure.

The Quartet No. 3 “Songs are Sung,” Op. 67 by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki belongs to the late works of the composer, and for a long time it was considered to be his last opused work. It was created in the ‘90s on commission of the Kronos ensemble. The reference to a song in the title is not accidental – the cantabile category, in combination with sometimes dramatic, sometimes doleful and melancholic narration addi-tionally contributes to the Quartet becoming a sui generis chamber echo of the Symphony of Sorrowful Songs No. 3. The perception of the piece is dominated with Górecki’s style, recognisable by almost every music lover, deeply emotional, introvert, frugal and at the same time extremely moving. The Dafô Quartet, the first female string quartet in Poland, have been fascinated with contemporary music performance from the beginning of their activity; they belong to the most outstanding performers of Polish chamber music.

Peter Moore won the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2008 aged just 12, and became the youngest winner of the competition. At the age of 18 he was appointed co-principle trombone with the London Symphony Orchestra. In 2015 Peter joined the prestigious BBC New Generation Artist scheme.‘Life Force’, Peter’s debut album is a superb portrait of his artistry and extraordinary talent, showcasing works that have played a pivotal role in his development as an artist, and for which Peter says he has special and great affection for – they became his life force, and still play a big part in his busy musical life.

The Phenomenon of Krzysztof Herdzin’s music lies first and foremost in its diversity. It is a natural consequence, as it were, of the versatility of a musician who combines the activities of a pianist, conductor, arranger and producer. This CD contains the ‘live’ recordings of several pieces that are stylistically diverse, yet for some listeners certain inspirations of the composer will surely be easily recognizable such as Poulenc, Bacewicz and Shostakovich.

Georg Philipp Telemann's extant works for wind ensemble take us into the unique region between military music, hunting music, and court music. However, these ensembles were active not only at the courts as part of the military staff but also influenced middle-class life in the towns through the garrisons stationed in them. Telemann was familiar with these ensembles both in the court and civic spheres, and about twenty works survive today in the characteristic wind instrumentation with woodwind instruments and a pair of horns, ten quintets of more than one movement, ten marches, and a wind version of the so-called Alter Overture TWV 55:F11. This CD presents five Quintets for Two Oboes (or oboi d'amore), Two Horns, and Bassoon (thoroughbass) – interpreted by the L'Orfeo Baroque Ensemble, which was established in 2009 with members from the L'Orfeo Baroque Orchestra in order to apply the orchestra's approach to the orchestral literature in the genuine dimensions of a chamber ensemble.

If you like Christina Pluhar and L’Arpeggiata’s wonderful way with old music, you’ll love this vibrant romp through some of the most engaging music of the 17th and 18th centuries. Frescobaldi and Handel are the best known of the composers here—the latter’s “Eternal Source of Light Divine” is magically updated. Rolf Lislevand’s lute- and theorbo-playing underpins the music with boundless imagination while some decidedly 21st-century muted brass-playing seems to take us into a Baroque jazz club. But then we are whisked back across the years for a thrillingly toe-tapping Pass’e mezzo e passacalli. Irresistible.

Valery Afanassiev on “WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART” Today we are too fond of clear-cut solutions and exhaustive explanations. Writers and film directors are supposed to shed light even on those nooks and crannies which should remain dark for the sake of perspective. And readers as well as cinema goers should remain in the dark about this and that for the sake of the same perspective, the same space, the same labyrinth. Alas, there are no more dark ladies either in sonnets or in novels. We have forgotten the aroma of unanswerable questions. And yet every masterpiece is an unanswerable question. And so is every artist of genius. In Pushkin's short tragedy Mozart and Salieri there are many unanswerable questions. Actually it ends with such a question: 'Is an evil deed compatible with genius?' (Gesualdo, who was unquestionably a composer of genius, killed his wife. But does this murder answer the question?)

A brilliant orchestra and an excellent conductor: when such a pairing is made for a Bruckner symphony, you can expect something special. The Linz master's sweepingly radiant eighth symphony is in the best hands with Hartmut Haenchen and the Royal Danish Orchestra from Copenhagen. With a beautiful sound and a powerful punch, as well as fast tempos that will blow listeners away, this is a masterful interpretation!
