The Brisbane singer/songwriter’s second LP is all brave, incandescent mood music. Written with producer Pascal Gabriel (Kylie Minogue, Goldfrapp) in a French castle, Supercry combines tidy arrangements (pristine electronics, sharp live instrumentation) with Louise’s deeply honest lyrical turns and haunting vocals. The result, like elegiac highlight “Nowhere,” is reminiscent of Fionna Apple.

Just out of their teens, it seems Copenhagen's Iceage have only added to the anxiety and tension that made their debut album, New Brigade, so compelling. But now, they're challenging their raging emotions instead of simply expressing them. You're Nothing, Iceage's sophomore album, is the sound of a band pushing their singular mix of punk, Goth, hardcore, and post-punk to even further extremes. It's overwhelming how many ways Iceage have found to write the short aggressive rock song.

Acapulco Lips. The name twists the tongue a bit—wait, is it Apocolypse? The band did indeed emerge from a damp Seattle basement, but that’s about the darkest visual of their origin story. Rather than a kiss with mortal doom and destruction, Acapulco Lips sound much more like a make-out session on a hot, salty beach, where summer is eternal and there’s no notion of the fun stopping any time soon. If they happened to be anywhere close to the apocalypse itself, they would definitely celebrate by picking up their gear and rocking the last living daylights out of the final party in the history of civilization.

Following the positive reactions and a wide media echo on their self-titled debut in 2012, Devil's Train got their follow-up in the pipeline, now. Again and again have their supporters expressed their joy about a band still combining the heavy sound of the 80s with the classic hard rock attitude of the 70s. Even though, Devil's Train had been thought to be a short-term side project in the beginning, it got clear pretty quickly that everyone had simply too much fun working together to quit – the outcome is quite impressive indeed. Instead of keeping it easy and following the straight concept of traditional heavy rock with a biker attitude, which had been so well accepted in the past, Devil's Train have been refining and enriching their individual style for their classically titled follow up „II“ without compromising any of their principles.

Following the ambitious quadruple-LP sprawl of 2016's R M H Q: Headquarters, veteran New Zealand guitarist Roy Montgomery composed a much shorter album and invited several female singers to grace his rolling, multi-dimensional guitar soundscapes. Montgomery wrote the lyrics as well as the music on the album's first side, while the guests on the second side expressed their own thoughts. "Apparition" begins the album with a slow fade-in of countless layers of guitars, resembling thick sheets of rain.
