    Matia Bazar is an Italian pop band formed in Genoa in 1975. The original members of the group were Piero Cassano (keyboards) Aldo Stellita (bass), Carlo Marrale (guitar), Giancarlo Golzi (drums) and Antonella Ruggiero (vocals).     Über den Komponisten Balthasar Fritsch ist nur wenig bekannt. Zwischen 1570 und 1580 in Leipzig geboren, war er Komponist sowie Mitglied der Leipziger Stadtpfeifer. Umso beeindruckender sind die Kompositionen Fritschs. Die vierstimmigen Werke seiner ersten Veröffentlichung "Primitiae Musicales" stehen ganz in der Tradition der Tanzmusik, mit klarer, leichtfüßiger Rhythmik, Vogelstimmen und Echos. Die zweite Publikation "Newe deutsche Gesänge nach der Welschen Madrigalien" enthält 12 Vokalstücke und verbindet den modernen italienischen Kompositionsstil mit der deutschen Sprache.

    This is another excellent effort by Chico Freeman, who is heard on tenor, flute and bass clarinet. The instrumentation varies on each selection during the LP, which also features trumpeter Wallace Roney, pianist Clyde Criner, bassist Cecil McBee, drummer Billy Hart, and Jack DeJohnette on drums and piano. Other than Thelonious Monk's "Jackie-ing" (Monk had recently passed away), the repertoire is comprised of originals by Freeman, McBee and Criner. Even if none of the songs individually caught on, they help set an exploratory yet fairly accessible mood, as Chico Freeman does his best to move the mainstream of jazz forward a bit.
