Daniel Erdmann, active as a member and co-leader of many bands, had the sound of this trio in his ear, and looked for and finally found the musicians who would allow the inner sound to become a reality. Here is a band that totally bears his stamp, that of the tenor saxophonist and composer. At the same time, in the ensemble playing there is lots of leeway for the participants. Music of this kind is about freedom, about the freedom to improvise in relation to the composition, freedom of feeling, thinking, and desire. What initially makes you sit up and take notice and draws you in, is the gesture, the closeness to speech, the narrative and rhapsodical manner.

Automat are a hypnotic groove trio of veteran German musicians who weave together noirish, jazzy funk, neo-psych, and pulsing post-Krautrock. Guitarist/electronicist Jochen Arbeit (ex-Die Haut and Einstürzende Neubauten), bassist/radio play producer zeitblom (Sovetskoe Foto), and in-demand session drummer/programmer Achim Färber (Project Pitchfork, Phillip Boa) began informally playing together in 2011. By early 2012, they were playing live in clubs and growing a wildly enthusiastic fan base. Over the next two years they established an immediate, physical, machine-like trance groove that attracted rockers and EDM fans. Their self-titled debut album was issued in the spring of 2014 on Bureau B and featured guest appearances by Lydia Lunch, Genesis P-Orridge, and Blixa Bargeld.

Al Bano and Romina Power are an Italian pop music duo formed in 1975 by then-married couple Albano Carrisi and Romina Power. They were highly successful in Italy and mainland Europe throughout the 1980s and the early 1990s. Their best known international hits include "Felicità", "Sharazan", "Tu, soltanto tu (Mi hai fatto innamorare)", "Ci sarà", "Sempre sempre", and "Libertà!". The duo primarily recorded in Italian but have also released a great number of records in Spanish and French. They participated twice in Eurovision Song Contest to a moderate success and performed five times at Sanremo Music Festival, winning in 1984 with the song "Ci sarà". The couple also shot seven films, based on their songs, between 1967 and 1984. The two separated and divorced in 1999, but reunited professionally in 2013.

Here Garbarek is approaching the extremes of his style, appearing once again with the Jan Garbarek Group. He has his usual stark, meditative pieces, interspersed with some cutting-edge work, occasionally spinning just enough out of control to be exciting. And in other places he ventures headlong into the syrupy fields of Kenny G.-land. All pieces on this record are titled after quotes from poems by Tomas Transtromer, and though the actual connection to these poems remains tenuous at best, they do add a provocative element to the pieces themselves, which beg for at least some programmatic interpretation. Excellent bass work by Eberhard Weber, particularly on the more avant-garde pieces (e.g., "The Crossing Place" and "One Day in March I Go Down to the Sea and Listen").
