BMG will issue a 50th anniversary edition of The Kinks‘ 1968 album The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society in October.

Combining the talents of tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano, guitarist John Scofield, bassist Dave Holland, and drummer Al Foster, there is an uncredited fifth member on jazz supergroup Scolohofo's debut recording, Oh! - Miles Davis. Every one of these musicians, except for Lovano, gained their first real success with the legendary trumpeter - an experience that informs their careers to the present. The aesthetic on Oh! is resolutely Milesian - impressionistic, spare, soft, funky, progressive, but always with an ear to the blues. Scolohofoda? His sound is almost literally present, an "implied tone" whenever Scofield's dissonant chord clusters and Lovano's whispery throat tones collide…

A very cool live album, mixing wild, innovative acoustic music with wild, innovative electric rock. The intense, live-wire nature of these performances is felt from start to finish - here, Valenca is an experimental artist at his creative peak, pushing persistently and playfully at the boundaries of style. It's pretty cool, and pretty compelling. If you're looking for watershed albums from the tropicalia era, this late entry is one of the gems. Ze Ramahlo plays ukulele and guitar; and there's a flute player in there as well…

As attractive as it is fluent and copious in quantity, the music of Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (1682–1765) gave immense pleasure to his courtly French audiences, so lucratively that he was able, unusually for his time, to pursue a career loosened from the ties of aristocratic patronage. He embodied the 18th-century homme du monde, and his music always reflects the conviviality and refined taste that permeated every aspect of the Parisian society of the time.

The Neapolitan Domenico Cimarosa (1749-1801) was certainly a prolific composer of operas, having more than 80 titles to his name. Though many have only recently enjoyed a revival, they were widely admired in his day. Cimarosa specialised in comedies, the form known as opera buffa, and his greatest achievement, Il matrimonio segreto, represents the pinnacle of the genre and would influence his contemporaries and generations of composers to come.

As the last completed symphony that Mahler wrote, the Ninth has often been heard by audiences as the composer’s swan song: a nostalgic, moving farewell from a composer conscious of his own mortality. This interpretation is of course easily justifiable, as etched into the musical fabric of the symphony are references to the tragedies that befell the composer in the years before his death. Furthermore, it is wholly plausible that for a man as melodramatic as Mahler, the idea of a symphony that centres around themes of loss and finality would surely have been an appealing prospect.

Bananarama reunited last year and completed a successful 22-date UK tour. The evening at London’s Eventim Hammersmith Apollo, in late November, was recorded and filmed and will be issued as a 2CD+DVD set next month. This new package features 19 songs performed live by Sara, Keren and Siobhan, including early classics like ‘Robert De Niro’s Waiting’, ‘Cruel Summer’, ‘Rough Justice’ along with later hi-energy hits like ‘Love In The First Degree’ and ‘I Heard A Rumour’.

Hugo von Montfort (1357–1423) was both a politician and a notable linguist of the late Middle Ages. More than 170 documents bear witness to his life: Originating from the well-known Bregenzer noble family, his journeys through Styria took him through large parts of all German-speaking and some neighboring countries. In 1401 he married Anna von Neuhaus; From this time on, his center of life shifted to the area around the Styrian castle Pfannberg.

Mark Kozelek previously promised to deliver two new albums this year. The first, a self-titled record, was released in May. In June, the singer-songwriter announced the second LP: It’s called This Is My Dinner and due out November 1st under his Sun Kil Moon alter ego.
