Latin music has been a strong influence on Al Di Meola since his early years, and in the '90s, he paid especially close attention to the music of Argentina. A welcome addition to his already impressive catalog, Di Meola Plays Piazzolla pays homage to the late Argentine tango master Astor Piazzolla (whose distinctive and very poetic brand of romanticism was considered quite daring and radical in Argentina). It would have been easy for an artist to allow his own personality to become obscured when saluting Piazzolla's legacy, but the charismatic Di Meola is too great an improviser to let that happen. Though his reverence for Piazzolla comes through loud and clear on these haunting classics, there's no mistaking the fact that this is very much an Al Di Meola project.

To mark the anniversary, Naïve re-issues three renowned recordings to feature his choral music, in a specially-priced box set, headed by the Gramophone award-winning version of his Stabat Mater by Rinaldo Alessandrini and Concerto Italiano, considered one of the best ever recorded.

Carter Jefferson cut his chops with Art Blakey in the years after Blakey had Billy Harper in the group, and as a loose way of describing him, Jefferson has a very spiritual post-Coltrane sensibility that closely resembles Harper's playing at times. Carter's recorded here in two different groups – one with Terumasa Hino on trumpet, and one with Shunzo Ono on trumpet – and the session has a nice spiritual edge, and lots of good original compositions. Tracks include "Why", "Rise Of Atlantis", "Blues For Wood", and "Changing Trains".

For his third album for Far Out Recordings, London based multi-instrumentalist and one of Europe’s finest saxophonists Sean Khan ventures to Rio de Janeiro to collaborate with iconic Brazilian polymath Hermeto Pascoal. Taking its title from the escaped slave settlement ‘Palmares’ in the Northeast of Brazil during the 1600s, Palmares Fantasy is Khan’s utopian jazz message for the world, and features Azymuth drummer Ivan ‘Mamao’ Conti, bassist Paulo Russo, guitarist Jim Mullen, and guest vocals from Brazilian chanteuse Sabrina Malheiros, and Cinematic Orchestra frontwoman Heidi Vogel.

This third volume of Erik Satie's complete solo piano music using Satie scholar Robert Orledge's new Salabert Edition focusses on music composed between 1892–97, including theatrical scores such as the revolutionary uspud, and the Danses Gothiques and famous Vexations written while the composer was hiding from a tempestuous love affair.
