Frantique were a three-piece female disco band that arrived in 1979 with the huge disco hit "Strut Your Funky Stuff" (UK #10, NL #15, BE #17) followed by their only album release on Philadelphia International Records, "Frantique". Follow up single, "Getting Serious" solidified the group's disco following. Frantique was masterminded by producing/song writing duo James Bolden and Jack Robinson. After the album's release the band had a final single release on Philadelphia International Records with "Steady With Teddy" b/w "Sensual You All" in 1980 before disbanding.

Jam Rostron's fourth album, called Powerhouse, was recorded between Los Angeles, New York, London and Berlin, where the experimental pop and dance music artist now lives. Several of the LP's tracks tackle themes of gender and class identity, while others are dedicated to family members. The album, which is out November 9th, also features a co-production credit for The Knife's Olof Dreijer, AKA Oni Ayhun. The LP's first single, "Transome," is out now. Powerhouse is Rostron's first full-length since 2014's All Love Is Legal, and their second on DFA after 2011's W.

The British trio Johnny Hates Jazz had Spandau Ballet's striking attire, clean-cut looks, and knack for smooth, glossy pop songs that were more soulful than the critics gave them credit for. Unfortunately, like Spandau Ballet Johnny Hates Jazz were stigmatized in the U.S. by an omnipresent hit that burned out interest in the group before the rest of their discography had the chance to be heard. Johnny Hates Jazz was formed in 1986 by Clark Datchler (vocals, piano), Calvin Hayes (keyboards), and Mike Nocito (bass). Named after a friend who despised jazz, Johnny Hates Jazz released their first single, "Me and My Foolish Heart," on RAK Records that year. The band searched for a major-label deal, and they were signed by Virgin Records after a gig at, ironically enough, a jazz club near the end of 1986. The group's debut single for Virgin, "Shattered Dreams," rocketed them into superstardom in 1987. "Shattered Dreams" landed at number five on the U.K. charts and number two in America. The band's debut LP, Turn Back the Clock, appeared in 1988, going multi-platinum in England and in the U.S.

The album "Lenses Extend" asks us to examine our place in an increasingly complex and interconnected world. The Universe Next Door was inspired by the EE Cummings poem "pity this busy monster, manunkind", which was critical of technology and how it hampered human connection and expression. The final phrase, "there's a hell of a good universe next door, let's go", gives us a sense of optimism about the future, and how sometimes a positive worldview is a matter of perception.

Germany’s Darkness has always been one of those criminally underrated thrash acts which seem to have slipped under the radar of most. Since forming back in December 1984 they’ve released a batch of solid albums, the last being the fantastic 2016 opus The Gasoline Solution. … And here they are again with their fifth studio offering, aptly titled First Class Violence, which begins with a Slayer-cum-Teutonic attack; kicking in with brash, volatile percussion and a riff that just scores through the skin with its immense precision.

This 1992 release features Holdsworth in conversation with usual compatriots Jimmy Johnson, Chad Wackerman, and Gary Husband. Keyboards are provided not only by Steve Hunt, but also by both Wackerman and Husband. Husband in particular demonstrates that his facility on the keyboards is equal to his skill on the drums. Despite the all-star cast of characters, there are certain peculiarities to Wardenclyffe Tower that prevent it from being numbered among Holdsworth's best work.

The Hamburg-based musician Frank Us looks back on a long musical career. He played in a few local bands before turning music into his profession, successfully composing jingles for products and companies. His secret love is and has always been the progressive rock that had the biggest musical influence on him. Frank Us and his friends have created a debut album that delivers an enormous bandwidth and that was clearly inspired by the golden era of progressive rock. Bands like ELP, Genesis, Marillion, UK, Yes, Rush, the early Queen or King Crimson were the influences that cemented Frank's love for this genre…

Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno is a landmark in baroque music. It is Handel’s first oratorio, product of his astonishing flowering in Italy in his early twenties, suffused with the youthful vigour and virtuosity of his early works. The libretto, by the well-connected Benedetto Pamphili, is a highly crafted composition drawing on a rich mix of artistic forebears. It is both moral-religious allegory dramatized in music, and a pattern book of human psychology. This is the second disc for Hyperion from Academia Montis Regalis, who drew great acclaim for their recording of Stradella’s San Giovanni Battista.

Coming on the heels of some rather mediocre efforts, The Sixteen Men of Tain is startlingly superb. Holdsworth has stripped away the distracting banks of keyboards and allowed his soaring, gliding guitar to shine through in a way it hasn't since the 1980s. Even the Synthaxe, Holdsworth's signature guitar synthesizer, sounds organic and immediate, not to mention far less prevalent than on previous albums. Dave Carpenter's acoustic bass is a radical departure (check out his solo on the title track), as are Walt Fowler's two guest appearances on trumpet. "The Drums Were Yellow," a burning guitar/drum duet tribute to the late Tony Williams, is also a first. Gary Novak's drumming is appropriately complex and riveting on this and six other tracks.

A Momentary Lapse of Reason is the thirteenth studio album by the English progressive rock band Pink Floyd. It was released in the UK and US on 7 September 1987 by EMI and Columbia. It was the first Pink Floyd album since the departure of bass guitarist, singer, and songwriter Roger Waters in 1985. Unlike many Pink Floyd albums, A Momentary Lapse of Reason is not a concept album and is instead a collection of songs written by guitarist David Gilmour, sometimes with outside songwriters. It followed Gilmour's decision to include material recorded for his third solo album on a new Pink Floyd album with drummer Nick Mason and keyboardist Richard Wright.

Franklin's Columbia years are hard to summarize in compilations, even fairly extensive ones such as this two-CD set, which includes six previously unreleased tracks and one previously unavailable alternate take among its 40 songs. In part that's because she explored several different styles during this era without really finding a home in any of them, in part that's because the quality of the recordings themselves were so erratic, and in part it's because Sony keeps putting out compilations that duplicate each other to a fair extent. About half the songs on this anthology, for instance, also appear on the most comprehensive previous Franklin/Columbia retrospective, Jazz to Soul. On its own merits, this is a fair summation of some of her more notable Columbia recordings, slightly more pop-oriented in its track selection than Jazz to Soul, and at least including something new in the handful of unissued numbers.

Road Games is an EP by guitarist Allan Holdsworth, released in 1983 through Warner Bros. Records originally on vinyl only; a CD edition was reissued through Gnarly Geezer Records in 2001, although to this day Holdsworth claims to have received no royalties from either release. He has also named it as one of his least favourite recordings, due to numerous creative differences with executive producer Ted Templeman. It nonetheless received a nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance at the 1984 Grammy Awards.
