A student of Anthony Braxton, Scott Rosenberg learned his master's lessons well, and from the opening notes on this album Braxton's presence is clearly felt. Some of the pieces such as "Tddk" emerge from the school of "ghost trance music," with unending angular phrases that stick in the craw. Others veer in different directions, but through it all there is a splendid stew of carefully crafted notated and improvised portions, a limitless feast. Rosenberg calls his quintet the Skronktet West, all of whose members the saxophonist has performed with regularly, and the level of detail and focus is evident…

Wise Buy's Scaffold best-of is a bare-bones compilation, running only 35 minutes and including no annotations beyond song titles. But it manages to trace the comic pop/rock trio's career from 1966 to 1974, licensing its 12 original tracks from Parlophone Records…

Sui Generis is one of the most important rock bands in Argentine history, enjoying enormous success and popularity during the first half of the 1970s and a following that lasts to the present throughout South America. Argentinean folk-rock band Sui Generis was formed in the early '70s by singer, guitarist, and keyboardist Charly García and singer/instrumentalist Nito Mestre, who met while being high school students. Their first record, called Vida, was released in 1972, followed by 1973's Confesiones de Invierno. The following year, bassist Rinaldo Rafanelli and drummer Juan Rodríguez joined the act, soon recording Pequeñas Anécdotas Sobre Las Instituciones. Due to internal discrepancies, the group decided to perform for the last time at Buenos Aires' Luna Park on September 5, 1975.

Latin Grammy Award-nominated Brazilian guitarist Ricardo Silveira has credits on hundreds of albums as musician, arranger, producer and/or musical director, while his solo career includes more than 10 recordings going back to 1984. Following an organ trio release in 2014, Silveira returns with Simbora, featuring a more traditional jazz trio consisting of double bassist Guto Wirtti and drummer Thiago "Big" Rabello.

The Baltic countries, just a couple of decades old in their current incarnations, have emerged as hotbeds of contemporary music, resting on a triad of experimentalism, community music-making, and a few big stars committed to the growth of a distinctive homegrown scene. Among the latter group, violinist Gidon Kremer has made consistently successful recordings, artistically and commercially, with his handpicked group of young Latvian musicians, Kremerata Baltica. Many of these have displayed Kremer's knack for combining contemporary music, tango, and established repertory in compelling thematic combinations.

Since 1991, a complete edition of all recordings in which Karlheinz Stockhausen has personally participated is being released on compact discs. Each CD in this series is identified by Stockhausen's signature followed by an encircled number. The numbers indicate the general historical order of the works. Stockhausen realised the electronic music and participated in these recordings as conductor, performer, sound projectionist, and musical director. He personally mixed down the recordings, mastered them for CDs, wrote the texts and drew the covers.

Beverly Kenney was one of the most promising new jazz singers of the mid-'50s. Unfortunately, she did not live long and recorded just three albums as a leader. This CD reissue, a quartet date with guitarist Johnny Smith, pianist Bob Pancoast, bassist Knobby Totah, and drummer Mousie Alexander, is a real gem, with Kenney heard in top form. Her version of "Destination Moon" is quite delightful, and other highlights include "Tis' Autumn," "Almost Like Being in Love," "There Will Never Be Another You," and "Snuggled on Your Shoulder," even if "Ball and Chain" (a renamed "Sweet Lorraine") does not quite cut it. Beverly Kenney had great potential and deserves to be remembered today.

The second long-player from the West Coast indie pop confectioners led by Avigdor Zahner-Isenberg, whose fondness for buffalo wings yielded the nickname that would become the band's moniker, At Best Cuckold lays to rest any notions of a sophomore slump, offering up a dizzying ten-track set of warm and weird, immaculately crafted psych-pop gems that blend the shifty art rock of MGMT with the refined pop acumen of Sufjan Stevens. Designed and directed by Isenberg and recorded with Jay Pellicci (The Dodos, Deerhoof, Sleater-Kinney), At Best Cuckold begins innocuously enough with the breezy "So What," a California sunset-ready highway (soft) rocker that lulls the listener into submission, a trajectory that's furthered by the Thunderclap Newman-inspired "Memories of You" and the Neil Young-kissed "Two Cherished Understandings".
